In the framework of the PRIMA (Process industries manufacturing advantage through information technology) project under the ESPRIT programme, a workshop entitled "Making IT work for the European process industries: A business driven view", will be held in Brussels on 20 September 1995.

The workshop will present some of the results of the PRIMA project which brings manufacturers together with a view to identifying key business drivers common to the sector and evaluating the requirements of underpinning IT systems of the future. The results of this examination of the future needs of industry will be of interest to other producers, as well as to key technology suppliers to the sector.

The workshop will include speakers from the European Commission, the PRIMA project and the European process industry associations. It will primarily be of interest to process industry managers and technical professionals, IT hardware and software manufacturers, and academics.

The topics covered will include:

- The European Commission and collaborative projects;
- PRIMA opportunities;
- Business and IT priorities and benefits for the future;
- An IT vision for the European process industries;
- Working together: PRIMA collaboration.

Two case studies will also be examined:

- Case study 1: Developing an IT strategy;
- Case study 2: A user driven system implementation
