The CQS'95 European Observatory on Software Engineering, a major European event in system and software engineering, will be held in Rome, Italy, on 23-26 October 1995.

CQS'95 will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the most significant trends and achievements in the areas of:

- Methods, techniques and organizational principles of software design and development for information and telecommunications systems;
- Consolidated (eg. ISO9000) and emerging standards (eg. SPICE) exerting a powerful influence on activities, processes and contractual relations among customers and software suppliers;
- New topics associated with international demand for software and related services (outsourcing in telecommunications, system integration, software development in low-wage countries, etc.);
- The use of total quality guidelines in software development;
- New design and development paradigms (object orientation, re-use, portability, etc.);
- New services for software qualification and certification;
- New telematics infrastructures (eg. Internet) for the software industry.

The event will include a wide variety of seminars, plenary sessions, workshops, private meetings and special events presented by over 150 top-level international speakers.

The European Commission will be playing a leading role in CQS '95 which will be hosting EUROSPI, the most significant strategic dissemination action in ESSI (European System and Software Initiative), and ESPITI (European Software Process Improvement Training Initiative), the European project aimed at increasing awareness of ISO9000 and process improvement.
