A seminar entitled "Sustainable development for rural areas: Decentralized electrification issues" will be held in Marrakech, Morocco, on 13-17 November 1995.

The aim of the seminar, organized by the "Agence de l'environnement et de la maitrise de l'energie" (ADEME) and supported by DG XVII of the European Commission, is to consolidate recommendations to the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development.

Technical and decision-making teams from twenty countries that lead the field in off-grid electrification will examine their approaches and solutions in the light of constraints imposed by funding organizations, societal options, government commitments and private-sector interests.

Industrial and engineering specialists are invited to contribute to the debate in terms of their knowledge of production levels capable of achieving and maintaining an accelerated rate of infrastructure development; their experience in technology transfer; and also in their capacity as investors and large-scale programme operators.
