The second annual "Global Mobile and Satellite Communications Conference" will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 28-30 November 1995.

The mobile communications sector is the fastest growth sector of the global communication marketplace - Western Europe alone recorded an annual growth rate in cellular subscribers of 61% in 1994. In countries such as UK, Sweden and Japan, mobile has already emerged as a mass consumer market as cellular subscriptions outpace connections to fixed networks. Meanwhile, the pace race in mobile satellite systems (LEOs, MEOs and GEOs) is intensifying.

The event aims to give participants an insight into the strategies of those driving the personal communications revolution and will address issues such as competition, regulation, technical developments, standards and market potential. It will notably focus closely on the decisions and implications of the World Radiotelecommunications Conference (WRC'95), held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 23 October to 17 November 1995, which is responsible for considering and approving International Telecommunication Union (ITU) recommendations for internationally agreed standards covering the use of the radio spectrum and satellite orbits by radiocommunication services. Specific items on the agenda include:

- An overview of the implications and decision of WRC'95;
- The impact of LEOs on terrestrial mobile;
- The marketing challenge and opportunities for mobile satellite systems;
- Regulating and licensing mobile satellite systems;
- Emerging new markets and standards for mobile communications services;
- Where are cellular communications overtaking fixed network connections?;
- The convergence of fixed band mobile services - a competitive environment for future regulatory and strategic challenges;
- Billing systems - a key enabler;
- Can Europe keep its lead in the transition form second to third generation systems?;
- How far are operators willing to go in developing new tariff initiatives to sustain growth levels?;
- How to counter churn in the cellular market;
- The consumer market for mobile services;
- One person, one number - is UPT just a pipe dream?
