The European Commission, DG XIII/E, is organizing a seminar on "The Quality of Information Products and Services", to be held as a satellite event of the ONLINE'95 Conference and Exhibition which will take place in London on 5-7 December 1995. The Commission seminar will take place in the afternoon of Monday, 4 December 1995.

The European Commission's experience of establishing effective quality assurance for on-line information products and services dates back to 1984. The Commission is currently implementing quality control procedures for its own information products and services as well as supporting new research in this field. In particular, the procedures developed to ensure the quality of the CORDIS databases will be an important element of the seminar which will:

- Provide an opportunity to learn from the practical experience of the Commission in the implementation of quality procedures;
- Assist customers in negotiating improved quality from their suppliers;
- Provide an opportunity to recommend further actions by the Commission;
- Outline the proposals for the new Community programme, INFO2000.

Copies of the presentations and of important reports from the Commission will be provided for registered participants.

The speakers will include:

- Mrs. Irja Vounakis (European Commission, DG XIII/D-2): responsible for the implementation of quality procedures for the CORDIS databases;
- Mr. Norman Swindells: expert adviser to the Commission on the quality of information products and author of several papers and reports on this topic.
- Mr. Lennart Scharff (ECHO): responsible for the implementation of quality procedures for the I'M Guide;
- Mr. Gerhard Heine (European Commission, DG XIII/E-1): responsible for actions on quality in the IMPACT 2 Programme.

The seminar is aimed at:

- Information professionals and other users concerned with quality problems on a day-to-day basis;
- Managers and other decision makers from the producers and suppliers of information products and services.
