Ninth European Bioenergy Conference and first European Energy from Biomass Technology Exhibition
Modern utilization of biomass for power, heat and transport fuel is a recent innovation with numerous challenges and important business opportunities. Technologies are moving from the research and development phase towards the market place and some are already commercially available.
The conference aims to review progress in technological development with a view to accelerating the deployment of bioenergy. It will provide a qualified meeting place for those involved and will address all actors in the field: manufacturers, agriculture and forestry feedstock producers, end-users (such as municipalities, utilities and the agro and forestry industries), researchers, developers, consultants, policy makers and the media.
The conference will highlight technical and non-technical barriers to bioenergy deployment. It will also look at European Union policy issues, national energy policies and global perspectives. The four-day conference will include plenary sessions, panel discussions and poster displays. A parallel exhibition of equipment is also being organized, for the first time this year, in order to underline the importance of industry participation.
The main topics to be covered by the conference are:
- Primary production of biomass: agricultural and forestry land-use aspects, crops and other raw materials from agriculture and forestry;
- Provision and production of solid biomass fuels: harvesting, storage, logistics, pre-treatment, energy-rich wastes, derived solid fuels;
- Processes for production of transportation fuels: thermochemical and biotechnical conversion, integrated production of fuel and industrial products;
- Processes for decentralized heat and power production: small-scale biomass combustion, thermal gasification and pyrolysis, biogas and power conversion systems;
- Processes for large central power plants: large-scale biomass and co-combustion, gasification and power conversion systems;
- Market, economic and environmental aspects of bioenergy;
- Policy measures to overcome non-technical barriers.
