The first European conference and brain-storming session on nanotechnology will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 10-11 April 1996.

The aim of the conference is to bring together members of the European scientific community interested or involved in research in nano-related areas, with a view to establishing a network for the coordination and exchange of scientific information in this area - to be known as the European Nanotechnology Initiative (ENI).

The main topics of the conference will include:

- Supramolecular chemistry;
- Nanodimension pattern generation technology;
- Self-assembling mechanism, self-assembling technology;
- Computational chemistry and molecular modelling;
- Material science;
- Engineering;
- Application areas (future perspectives).

The conference will put forward proposals and recommendations for the increased exploitation of existing EU research programmes, as well as for the strengthening of nanotechnology in the formulation of the Community's Fifth Framework Programme for research and technological development.
