A conference entitled "Flexible learning on the information superhighway", FLISH'96, will take place in Milton Keynes, UK, on 22-24 April 1996. Organized by the UK Open University, the core theme of the conference is "networked multimedia and high-bandwidth digital communications in open, distance and flexible learning".

The event will focus on typical models and case studies of systems that can be used in open and flexible learning, in a scaleable and flexible way, by all types of educational organization. It will cover not just "traditional" teaching uses of the Internet (computer conferencing and the Web) but the whole range of services this medium provides, including the real-time audio and video services migrating from ISDN, and the broadband services just beginning to emerge from the cable and ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network operators.
