An international conference entitled "Pre-reduced products and Europe" will be held in Milan, Italy, on 23-24 September 1996. Organized by the Italian Metallurgical Association (AIM), with support from the European Community's specific RTD programme in the field of industrial materials and technologies (BRITE/EURAM), the conference will examine the use of pre-reduced products in European steel production.
The aim of the conference is to open an in-depth discussion to determine to what extent, and in what conditions, direct reduction products can be competitive with scrap and other sources of iron for steel making, using both traditional blast furnaces and newly developed reduction and smelting processes.
