The European Science Foundation (ESF) is organizing, in collaboration with the European Physical Society, a research conference on "Quantum optics" to be held in Castelvecchio Pascoli, Italy, on 21-26 September 1996.

The main topics to be covered include:

- Intense laser field effects;
- Complexity and chaos in optics;
- Quantum information transfer and processing;
- Cavity QED;
- Ultracold atoms, their interactions and BEC.

The event is being supported under the Community's specific programme for the Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR), and a number of grants are available for young scientists from less-favoured regions of the European Union and Associated States, industrial researchers and women scientists. Some funds may also be available for applicants from Central and Eastern European countries.
