A one-day conference on "Investment and joint venture opportunities in southern Africa" will take place in London, United Kingdom, on 24 May 1996. The conference is organized by the UK Institute of European Trade and Technology (IETT).

The aim of the conference is to provide European organizations and companies with information on specific trading and investment opportunities in southern Africa, at a time when the European Union is developing a new framework for cooperation with the region. The topics to be covered by the conference will include:

- The new EU-southern Africa cooperation framework;
- EU aid and investment financing in the region;
- Priority sectors for investment in South Africa;
- Examining investment risks in southern Africa;
- EC financing of joint ventures: the European Communities Investment Partners (ECIP) programme;
- Technical and financial assistance for investment in ACP (Africa Caribbean Pacific) countries.

In addition, speakers from the European Investment Bank, the South African High Commission, private businesses and DG I (External Relations) of the European Commission will provide expert advice.
