A workshop on the TIMBRE project entitled "Process integration in the postal service of the future" will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 21 May 1996. The event is organized by the International Post Corporation (IPC), a partner in the TIMBRE (technology in mail business re-engineering) project. TIMBRE is funded by the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of information technologies (ESPRIT).

The TIMBRE project aims to respond to the challenges presented to the postal services by increasing market liberalization and electronic alternatives to traditional mail, by achieving a major improvement in the productivity and quality of service of the European postal services.

The project has so far completed its first stage, that of defining the requirements and developing an information model and process integration architecture. At this stage of the project, the consortium includes the postal organizations of Denmark, Ireland and the United Kingdom, as well as AEG Electrocom, Elsag Bailey and Pitney Bowes and International Post Corporation (IPC) Technology.

The workshop will present the project and its results to date, as well as its plans for the future. Feedback obtained from the workshop will be used to help in determining the upcoming pilot phase of the project.
