A THERMIE workshop on "Renewable energy databases: Exploiting their full potential" will take place in Harwell (near Oxford) in the United Kingdom from 4 to 5 November 1996.

The aims of the workshop are to:

- Bring together for the first time representatives from the vast range of renewable energy database development programmes and their end-users;
- Provide a forum for undertaking an inventory of currently available applications;
- Seek ways of better exploiting database resources;
- Encourage more interaction between workers in different fields;
- Promote an exchange of views on, and provide directions for, renewable energy databases of the future.

Particular topics to be covered are:

- Statistical databases: availability, access, optimization, exploitation;
- Geographical information systems: overview, technical aspects, impact;
- Contact directories: information, equipment, networks, finance, expertise;
- Renewable energy databases of the future: requirements, new approaches, Internet.

The workshop will consist of invited reviews, contributed oral and poster papers, and an exhibition of database products and services.
