Demand side management and energy efficiency strategy

The Second International Demand Side Management and Energy Efficiency Strategy Conference will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 20 to 21 November 1996. It is organized by the Danish Energy Agency, the Association of Danish Electric Utilities (Danske Elværkers Forening) and the SAVE programme for the promotion of energy efficiency in the European Union.

The conference theme will be "Energy efficiency in the 21st century - a role for the utilities?". The main topics to be discussed are:

- The role of government and regulation in developing the new marketplace;
- The possibility of new actors entering the marketplace and taking over the traditional role of the utilities;
- The establishment of strategic alliances between utilities and equipment manufacturers;
- The role of innovative financing, and the possible growth of the energy service business.

The conference is aimed at strategic planners working in utilities, equipment manufacturers, government, energy services companies and consultancies.

There will also be a post-conference workshop on 22 November 1996, organized by the International Energy Agency's Demand Side Management Programme Task Force. The workshop will examine demand side management and energy efficiency services in a new electricity business environment.
