A European Lifelong Learning and Information Society Conference and Exhibition, ELLIS, will be held in Dublin, Ireland, from 9 to 11 September 1996. An official event of the Irish Presidency of the European Union, it is organized by University College Dublin as part of the European Year of Lifelong Learning funded by DG XXII of the European Commission.

The conference, with the theme "Access through technology", aims to provide an opportunity to view the educational potential of new technologies. The conference itself will run for two days, with a pre-conference workshop designed for those who wish to know more about information technologies such as multimedia, the Internet, interactive television and videoconferencing.

Workshops at the conference will address the following topics:

- The needs of adult returners;
- On-the-job continuing education and training;
- Integration of technology and mainstream education;
- Teacher training.

The exhibition will demonstrate multimedia and information technology products. Exhibitors will include multimedia and communication companies, trade associations, representative bodies, research groups, and academic institutions interested in the field.
