Strategy, policy and practice: The regions' way to the information society

The second annual conference of the Inter-Regional Information Society Initiative (IRISI) on "Strategy, policy and practice: The regions' way to the information society" will take place in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 24 to 25 October 1996.

The conference is organized by the IRISI network in cooperation with the Region of Central Macedonia, and hosted by the Greek Secretariat of Research and Technology and the Regional Information Society Unit of Central Macedonia.

The conference will focus on strategy building and regional policy and practice to develop the Information Society according to regional needs and priorities. In particular, it will address the following issues:

- Developing regional strategies: awareness-raising, consultation and consensus-building, forming partnerships, strategy formulation and implementation;
- Developing regional activities and action plans: realizing opportunities and confronting threats;
- Inter-regional networking: benefits of inter-regional cooperation and the IRISI experience;
- The European Community: regional development and the Information Society
- The future of IRISI: regional and inter-regional objectives.
