A THERMIE workshop on "Clean coal technologies" will be held in Katowice, Poland, on 10 October 1996. The Community's THERMIE programme supports the demonstration and promotion of energy technologies. The workshop is organized by the EC Energy Centre in Katowice and the Institut Wallon in Namur, Belgium.

Since coal will form a significant part of European energy resources for the foreseeable future, there is a need for more environmentally-friendly coal technologies to be used. The aim of the workshop is to promote the use of clean coal technologies in Central and East European countries and the EU. During the workshop, a number of the latest developments in clean coal technologies will be presented, ranging in application from domestic use to power generation plants.
