The conference will be a major event for professionals involved in the internationalization of higher education. A wide range of sessions and workshops will be organized, covering a number of different fields in international education. In particular, European Community programmes in the field of higher education and other relevant areas will be discussed. Participants in Community-funded projects will outline their experiences in this area and Commission officials will provide advice on programme activities and application procedures.

Key Community programmes to be covered will include:

- SOCRATES: Community action programme in the field of education;
- TEMPUS: programme for trans-European cooperation in higher education;
- LEONARDO DA VINCI: Community vocational training action programme.

Other Community programmes and initiatives of interest to those involved in higher education, and which will be covered during the conference, include: CORDIS (the Community's Research and Development Information Service); the development of the Fifth RTD Framework Programme; and the Commission's recent White Paper on education and training. Opportunities available under the technical assistance programmes for Central and Eastern Europe (PHARE) and the New Independent States of the former Soviet Union (TACIS) will also be discussed.

In addition to the formal sessions, there will be ample opportunity for participants to arrange meetings with partners and prospective partners to discuss plans for Community-funded projects.
