The Information Society and government information in Europe
The aim of the conference is to address the role of the Internet and related systems in disseminating information about both EU and national governments' activities. In particular, information needs to be accurate, timely, and of sufficient breadth to allow citizens to follow and influence the decision-making process. Another major consideration in the dissemination of information is the need to ensure delivery to particular language groups and other target groups.
The main themes to be covered by the conference are:
- How EU and national government information can be made more accessible to users;
- Do electronic information systems offer better access to government information;
- Can interactivity be a step forward in government-citizen communications;
- Does information provision strategy need to be rethought, now that the Internet is claiming its role in the communication mix;
- Do all stakeholders get a fair chance to influence the decision-making process.
