The fourth international conference on "Intelligence in Networks" - ICIN'96 - will be held in Bordeaux, France, from 25 to 28 November 1996. The conference, which is sponsored by the International Telecommunication Union and supported by DG XIII of the European Commission, will address the main issues relating to the development of intelligent applications and networks.

The convergence of telecommunications and information technology has driven the rapid evolution of network intelligence over the last decade, allowing the creation of distributed applications and services built on the ability of networks to carry an increasingly large amount of information and to allow personal and mobile access. A new market is thus opening up allowing mass access to the Information Society.

ICIN'96 will attempt to reflect these changes, underlining the main achievements. Particular attention will be given to: mobility; broadband; service creation and management; distributed environments; and marketing. The conference programme will include experiences from trials and live demonstrations of new and innovative applications and services.
