The Institute of European Trade and Technology (IETT) in the UK is organizing a series of workshops on proposal writing for Community research programmes in the fields of Information Technologies (ESPRIT) and Life Sciences (BIOMED, BIOTECH and FAIR).

The workshops are scheduled as follows:

- ESPRIT (Information Technologies): London, 22 January 1997 and Bristol, 19 February 1997;

- Life Sciences (the BIOMED, BIOTECH and FAIR programmes): London, 24 January 1996 and 26 February 1997.

The workshops will consist of a detailed briefing in the morning and development of proposals in the afternoon. The agenda will include:

- Selecting projects for funding (type of projects, EC objectives and criteria);
- Call summary (key points to bear in mind);
- Evaluation of proposals (evaluation criteria, evaluator's advice);
- Application form and project summary (common mistakes and pitfalls);
- Main part of the proposal: the work programme (technical aspects, milestones, costings);
- Socio-economic criteria and exploitation plans (understanding EC objectives);
- One-to-one consultations (advice to proposers).

Speakers will include EC evaluators (independent experts employed by the EC to evaluate proposals) and proposers having written successful proposals under the Fourth Framework Programme.
