A conference on industrial towns and sustainable development will take place in Dunkirk, France, on 30 and 31 January 1997. The event is supported by the Association Inter-Regionale sur la Recherche Européenne (AIRE), a member of the Innovation Relay Centres Network.

The aim of the meeting is to exchange information about different practices in the field of development planning in industrial areas in relation to the environment. Practical examples from France and from other European countries will be presented. These examples will either describe overall policies, or address particular aspects of environmental protection, such as water, air, waste, risks, noise, landscape and informing the population of developments.

The organizers of the meeting are interested in receiving submissions from firms, particularly SMEs, from across Europe who have experience of environmental proceedings in the planning context, in order to have the widest possible exchange of experience. In particular, information about siting conditions, partnership with local authorities and environmental considerations in site selection would be welcomed.
