European Union-MERCOSUR PARTENARIAT

The EU-MERCOSUR PARTENARIAT is an initiative of the European Union aimed at establishing business cooperation agreements between companies in the EU Member States and those in the countries of the MERCOSUR customs union (Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay). The first EU-MERCOSUR PARTENARIAT will take place in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 4-5 December 1997.

The event is expected to mobilize over 300 companies from the MERCOSUR states and more than 200 from the European Union, all of them interested in exchanging technologies, goods and services through different cooperation schemes (joint venture, transfers of technology and know-how, subcontracting, manufacturing licences, etc.).

The following industrial sectors will be represented:

- Agro industries, food;
- Chemical products, plastics and components;
- Textiles and garments;
- Metallurgy-machinery.

Throughout two intensive days of bilateral meetings, this event will bring together European companies and firms from the host region, highlighting MERCOSUR's economic potential and providing an adequate framework for the establishment of entrepreneurial cooperation agreements, strategic alliances and commercial exchanges.
