Two "Enterprise Training" courses cofinanced by the THERMIE section of the Community's JOULE/THERMIE specific RTD programme in the field of non-nuclear energy will be held in Tenerife, the Canary Islands, on 20-21 and 24-25 February 1997. This "Enterprise Training" initiative is aimed at stimulating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to make wider and more efficient use of renewable energy technology.

The courses will include a series of seminars, moderated discussion sessions and state-of-the-art technology demonstrations. Each of the two-day courses will be divided into two parts - one part deals with technology-specific market issues, while the other focuses on how SMEs can fully exploit national and EU-level RTD support schemes and information services.

The first two courses under this initiative will cover the market in photovoltaics (20-21 February 1997) and wind energy technologies (24-25 February 1997) respectively. The following issues will be covered:

- State-of-the-art technology and the market of the future;
- Role of economic, social and environmental issues in influencing the development of the market in renewable energy technology;
- Shared-cost RTD: the options for SMEs;
- Where can SMEs get the information they need.
