A European workshop entitled "Low head hydropower - New approaches and innovative technologies" will be held in London, UK, on 17-18 April 1997. The workshop is being co-funded by the THERMIE section of the Community's JOULE/THERMIE research programme in the field of non-nuclear energy. It is also sponsored by the European Small Hydro Association, the British Hydropower Association, and the International Solar Energy Society (UK Section).

There is a growing awareness of the major energy potential available at the many thousands of hydropower sites with heads below 3m. Innovative techniques for exploiting this potential are being developed but have not been widely disseminated. The workshop is intended to provide a forum for the exchange of information on innovations for low-head and ultra-low-head hydropower developments, with the emphasis on real experiences and proven results.

The workshop will offer manufacturers and researchers the opportunity to present their innovative approaches, products, and experiences in this field, both to each other and to scheme developers, consultants and utilities. These will serve as the focus for open discussion.
Professionals who are interested in attending and/or presenting an innovation at the workshop are requested to contact:
