A workshop on official statistics in the web era, "The World Wide Web as a statistical producer", will take place in Londonderry, UK, from 10-12 April 1997. This think-tank workshop, hosted by the University of Ulster, is an ESPRIT Dissemination Action.

The workshop will examine to what extent the Web can, over and beyond its role in information dissemination, contribute to the generation of statistical information and discuss the methodological problems posed by this. The workshop programme will include presentations on:

- Data analysis using transport data;
- The statistics of electronic commerce;
- Confidentiality and information access;
- Connectionist network modelling for telecommunications;
- Official statistics in the era of Internet-based information and data flows;
- Using the Internet for environmental monitoring and observation;
- Data understanding and forecasting at multiple resolution scales.
