The sixth European STRIDE conference, "Inter-regional cooperation and RTD", will take place in Bremen, Germany, on 3 and 4 March 1997. The conference is part of the European Community initiative concerning regional capacities for research, technological development and innovation (STRIDE).

The conference will be addressed by senior Commission officials responsible for RTD policy in a number of areas, as well as by representatives from Bremen and the German federal government. In addition to these plenary sessions, there will be four parallel workshops:

- The impact of RTD activities on regional development: The contribution of the STRIDE programme;
- Management of research and innovation: Needs on the regional and local levels;
- Inter-regional cooperation and RTD: Impact on regional economies;
- Cohesion and research policy: Challenges for the regions in the Europe of tomorrow.

Speakers in the workshops come from a variety of research institutes, government departments and technology transfer agencies from across Europe. These speakers will give examples of their experiences in RTD and innovation activities at regional and local levels.
