Melting and recycling of metallic materials from decommissioning
The main aim of the seminar, the third of its kind to be organized by the European Commission, is to provide an international forum for reporting and discussing the problematics of:
- Melting and recycling nuclear metallic materials;
- Recycling alternatives already available or under development, taking into account very recent results.
The seminar should identify issues and options for further actions and allow a better understanding of the impact on man and the environment. The following main topics will be covered:
- Melting of radioactively contaminated steel and of non-ferrous metals (aluminium, copper, lead and brass);
- Melting of alpha-tritium-contaminated items;
- Reuse/recycling of steel in the nuclear industry: future concepts;
- Free release, economic aspects, licensing and public information/acceptance.
Each session will be complemented with discussions. An exchange of more general views will be possible during a final session led by a panel composed of international experts.
