A workshop on "Metrology in chemical and biological measurements" will take place in Chalkidi, Greece, from 17 to 19 April 1997. The workshop, which is funded by the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT), will bring together experts from Italy, Ireland, Greece, Portugal and Spain to discuss the needs of industry and governmental laboratories in the field of metrology in chemistry and biology.

The workshop is intended to contribute to the establishment of a harmonized system of metrology to achieve accuracy in chemical and biological measurements. The discussions will focus on aspects of traceability, measurement uncertainty, pitfalls in terminology and use of reference materials, standards and traceable methods, method validation, proficiency testing, quality systems and accreditation.

Participation in the workshop is restricted. Proceedings summarizing the experts' views, along with original contributions, will, however, be available from the workshop organizers.
