A workshop on medical software policy guidelines will be held in Turku, Finland, on 14 and 15 April 1997.

The aim of the workshop is to examine possibilities for the development of guidelines for independent evaluation of medical software applications, since the end-users of such products are not able to make educated judgements and compare the merits of competing systems. The workshop will profit from the experience gained from the advanced development of the use of medical telematics in Finland.

Topics to be covered at the workshop will include:

- Intellectual property, data security and legal aspects;
- Scientific evaluation of services;
- Reliability of telecommunications;
- State-of-the-art in checking software for errors;
- Quality certification - advantages and disadvantages;
- EU view of certification.
