Towards the Information Society

A conference entitled "Towards the Information Society" will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 25 February 1997. The conference is being organized by the Portuguese members of the European Community's Information Society Forum and the Mission for the Information Society, an interministerial structure of the Portuguese government.
The conference will be chaired by the Portuguese Minister of Culture, and will be addressed by representatives of the Portuguese parliament, the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Portuguese government. In addition, there will also be speakers from journalism and academic circles.
The Information Society Forum, established in 1995, advises the European Commission on policies in the area of the Information Society.
