A training course on "Radiation protection in interventional radiology" will take place in Madrid, Spain, from 12 to 14 May 1997. The course is organized by the European Commission, the Complutense University of Madrid and CIEMAT, within the framework of the Commission's ERPET (European Radiation Protection Education and Training) initiative.

The aim of the course is to highlight the impact of new technologies on optimization procedures and their role in reducing patient and staff exposures in interventional radiology.

The first day of the course, aimed at interventional radiologists and cardiologists, will cover clinical and operational aspects of radiation protection for interventional radiology. The second and third days, which are aimed at medical physicists and radiographers, will cover technical aspects and quality assurance strategies in interventional radiology.
