A meeting of economic institutes participating in the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership will be held in Marseilles, France, on 24 and 25 March 1997. The meeting, which falls within the framework of the economic chapter of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, aims to establish contact between economic research teams from both sides of the Mediterranean as a foundation for regular collaboration.

The meeting, which will bring together representatives of about sixty economic institutes, will be structured in eight workshops in order to allow in-depth discussion of the central questions of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. The topics to be discussed are the following:

- The conduct of the economic transition: macro-economic aspects and the development of the private sector;
- The development of the Euro-Mediterranean system of interdependence;
- The impact of the future enlargement of the European Union on the Mediterranean partners;
- Agriculture, food self-sufficiency, water and agricultural trade in the Euro-Mediterranean area;
- The key role of women;
- State and public institutions;
- Information Society, education and training;
- Decentralization, inter-regional cooperation and territorial dynamics.
