A sectoral meeting on "Production of pharmaceuticals by animal cell technology", organized within the framework of the Community's specific RTD programme in the field of Biotechnology (BIOTECH), will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, on 14-16 March 1997.

The meeting will bring together participants from ten projects funded under the BIOTECH programme. The main aim is to provide a European forum for reporting and discussing progress made in using animal cell culture for the production of pharmaceutical products.

The main topics to be covered will include:

- Specific manipulation of cells for gene expression: transcriptional and transitional control;
- Postranscriptional events: from glycosylation to secretion;
- Control of cell cycle, growth, differentiation, apoptosis and cell physiology.
