A conference on "Women in the Information Society" will be held in Cologne, Germany, on 17 March 1997. The event is being organized by the Research Information and Advice Bureau of the Ruhr University in Bochum (DE), and is supported by DG III of the European Commission.

The conference will address the role of, and opportunities for, women in the developing Information Society. Key speakers will include Dr. Reinhard B�scher of the European Commission (DG III), who will present European initiatives in the field of electronic commerce. Mrs. Erika Mann, Member of the European Parliament, will be participating in the panel discussion on "Women in the Information Society: Work, leisure and lifelong learning".
