A conference on "Life cycle approaches to production systems - Management, control, supervision" will take place in Budapest, Hungary, on 14-18 July 1997. The conference is being organized by the ESPRIT Network of Excellence (NOE) in Intelligent Control and Integrated Manufacturing Systems (ICIMS) as part of its annual Advanced Summer Institute (ASI) conference series.

Developing integrated manufacturing systems and raising the automation level in production and manufacturing have been the main goals in an effort made by many companies, academic institutions and research centres to reform manufacturing methods for all (small and large) industries in the 1990's. The objective of the ASI'97 conference is to bring together experts from academia and industry to present their views on the present state of the art in the technical areas involved.

It is intended to cover all major aspects of life cycle approaches to production systems. The conference programme will include a series of invited lectures, technical presentations, round table discussions, and demonstrations/exhibitions aimed at raising the awareness of the scientific and industrial community in Europe regarding the potential impact of emerging solutions for world-class manufacturing in the future.

During ASI'97 a number of academic and industrial nodes will present their R&D activities. An effort will also be made to organize intensive short courses on the first and fourth day of the conference.
