An international conference on "School education in the Information Society" will take place in Crete, Greece, on 17-19 September 1997. The conference is being organized by the Lambrakis Research Foundation and the European Distance Education Network and is supported by the European Commission.

This second "Open Classroom" conference will look into changes in the structure and content of school education brought about by the continuing progress of information and communication technologies and the application of flexible (open and distance) learning. A wide range of topics will be addressed. Papers are invited in the following four areas:

- Educational multimedia and flexible/open learning environments;
- Distance learning services in education at school level;
- Operational models in school education;
- "European Schools Network".

The papers submitted must correspond to the state-of-the-art in educational technology, educational multimedia, open and distance learning (ODL) and school education.
