European standardization and its influence on craft and small businesses
The next conference in the series, "European standardization and its influence on craft and small businesses" will address the issues of standardization and quality as they relate to SMEs. This "pre-conference", which will take place in Stockholm, Sweden on 17-18 April 1997, is being organized by the European Office of Crafts, Trades and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises for Standardization (NORM-APME), in collaboration with F"retagarna and NUTEK.
The aim of the conference is to discuss ways of improving the participation of craft and small enterprises in the process of standardization. The recent creation of NORM-APME has contributed greatly to the representation of the craft sector and SMEs in this area and ways of strengthening its role will be addressed.
Another main issue will be the special needs of SMEs in the field of environmental management and quality assurance. In this context, it is hoped that the pre-conference will lead to the adoption of concrete recommendations addressing the special concerns of SMEs with regard to quality assurance and the European Union's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
