European Conference on Composite Materials

The eighth European Conference on Composite Materials (ECCM-8) will take place in Naples, Italy, on 3-6 June 1998. Part of a series initiated in the early 1980s, ECCM-8 will, once again, bring together scientists and industrialists involved in composite materials to review the state-of-the-art in this sector.

The conference programme will consist essentially of several specific symposia dealing with selected sectors relating to "science, technologies and applications of composites". The areas to be covered include:

- Composites in construction;
- Composites in biomedical applications;
- High temperature and MMC;
- Marine, aerospace, automotive and rail applications;
- Composites: new basic concepts;
- Testing, design, damage tolerance, NDT;
- Cost/reliability ratio: Innovations in fabrication;
- Fibres and textiles.

An EU workshop on Industrial and Materials Technologies (the BRITE/EURAM programme) will be held during the conference. This will provide a presentation, to SMEs, of BRITE/EURAM projects of particular interest to the advanced materials and technologies sector.

ECCM-8 is linked with the CIMTEC'98 Ninth World Forum on New Materials, to be held in Florence, Italy, on 14-19 June 1998.
