The results of the analyses of Earth Observation (EO) requirements for five customer segments, conducted for the Centre for Earth Observation (CEO) programme, will be presented at an open meeting to be held in Ispra, Italy, on 6 May 1997.

The five customer segments addressed by the EO studies are as follows:

- Insurance companies;
- Travel/tourism industry;
- Environmental protection organizations for land resources;
- Town/city local government departments;
- Civil engineering companies.

The studies included the following:

- A series of workshops with representatives from the customer segment;
- Identification in detail of which professional tasks can potentially benefit from EO information;
- Specification of EO products that are currently feasible, to address these professional tasks;
- Provision of a comprehensive report, characterizing the customer segment, its potential usage of EO, and in particular, identifying the value (benefits against costs) that CEO information can provide;
- The provision of an "information paper", to brief other individuals and organizations in the customer segment of the benefits of using EO information.
