ORBIT'97, the first of a biennial series of international conferences on organic recovery and biological treatment, will take place in Harrogate, UK, on 3-5 September 1997. The event is being organized by NCDA and ORCA, with support from the European Union.

This three-day conference will focus on the roles of composting and anaerobic digestion in relation to sustainability in waste management. Internationally renowned experts, leading academics and high-level industry representatives will address a wide variety of topics, including:

- Standards and quality criteria;
- Developments in the composting programme;
- Developments in anaerobic digestion;
- Impact of legislation, normalization and standards;
- Systems for developing countries;
- Life cycle analysis and sustainability;
- Environmental and health impacts.
