The First European Forum on Waste will be held in Brussels on 16-17 November 1997. The Forum is being organized by the Brussels Institute for the Environment, with support from the European Commission.

The aim of the Forum is to provide an opportunity for down-to-earth, interactive discussion on issues related to waste management policy in Europe today. Particular attention will be given to the future of the waste market and the development of producer responsibility.

The programme will include an introductory session, providing an overview of the issues, and four round tables bringing together experts with conflicting views. Topics to be addressed will include:

- The state of waste policy in Europe;
- Packaging and paper;
- Cars and tyres;
- Electrical and electronic equipment;
- The future of European waste policy.

The Forum will also be the official launch of the European Waste Club. This Club is a think tank and centre for discussion bringing together all those involved in waste management, whether from the public or private sector, academia, media or NGOs. Founder members of the club are closely associated with the organization of the Forum and will chair the round-tables.
