A summer course on indicators for sustainable urban development will be held in Delft, The Netherlands, from 5 to 12 July 1997. The course is supported by the European Community's Environment and Climate RTD programme, and is intended for students from EU and EFTA countries.

The week's programme will aim to enlarge knowledge and disseminate expertise on urban sustainability indicators. Participants will learn about state-of-the-art urban indicators, and how to use them for the integration of urban processes and projects towards sustainability.

The course will use a mixture of presentations from experts, practical exercises and discussions, in order to involve participants fully in the work. Excursions to Rotterdam and The Hague will allow students to observe, at first hand, scientific instruments for monitoring urban environments, the use of indicators for local policy and public awareness raising campaigns.
