The EU-South Africa Electronics Business Forum will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 12-14 May 1997. The three-day Forum will provide an opportunity for EU and South African IT companies to develop business contacts and explore ways of cooperating in the field of information and communications technologies.

In view of the science and technology agreement signed, at the end of last year, between the EU/South Africa, the event could also lead to the development of new R&D partnerships. Within this context, a special workshop will be held which will provide an overview of IT research capacity and research programmes in the EU and South Africa. The workshop will be chaired by the South African Minister of Telecommunications.

The European Commission will support the participation European IT companies in the Business Forum by contributing ECU 1,000 to the travel and accommodation costs of up to 40 companies selected to receive support.

The Forum is linked to Computer Faire & BEXA 1997, the largest IT trade fair in the southern hemisphere.
