SEPG'97, the European Software Engineering Process Group conference 1997, will be held in Amsterdam from 16 to 19 June 1997. The conference is being organized in collaboration with the European Commission.

The aim of the conference is to disseminate experience and best practice in improving software process engineering. Software process improvement practitioners will present the latest developments in a number of areas. These will be complemented by presentations from representatives of companies which have implemented strategies for software process control.

Examples of issues which will be addressed include:

- Why software process improvement is gaining momentum in Europe;
- How software process helps with critical projects such as the problems with the year 2000;
- How teams can become more effective by empowerment;
- How companies can profit from software process improvement in meeting business demands.

During the conference there will be presentations of software process improvement projects funded by the European Commission. In addition, representatives of the Commission will outline the research opportunities available under Community programmes, in particular the ESPRIT programme.
