The European Commission, DG XIII, is organizing an Inter-urban Transport Telematics Forum on "Moving towards trans-European telematics services on the inter-urban road networks", to take place in Paris, France, on 6 June 1997. The Forum is being organized in collaboration with the CODE (Coordinated Dissemination in Europe of Transport Telematics Achievements) project of the Community's Telematics Applications programme. It is also supported by the French Ministry for Equipment, Housing, Transport and Tourism.

The Forum, the first in a series to be held from Spring 1997 to Autumn 1998, will focus on the use of transport telematics on the European inter-urban road networks. Following the opening session, in which the keynote address will present the SIRIUS deployment project in Ile-de-France, the Forum will be divided into two parts:

- Session 1. Users' and administrations' requirements and policies:
This will look at how user needs and administrations' requirements are defined and what measures are being taken by the EU and national governments to address them. Examples of ongoing projects and activities will be provided, including presentations of projects being carried out within the framework of the Trans-European Networks (TENs), the HANNIBAL project (France-Italy), and projects in Germany and the UK;

- Session 2. Information services:
Examples from specific projects will be given to illustrate the range and types of information systems and services that are being implemented. Presentations will, in particular, describe the activities of the European Commission (DG XIII) to support work in this area. Participants will, notably, be informed of progress being made within the FORCE, ENTERPRICE, PROMISE and INFOTEN projects.
