The 1997 annual conference of LIBER, the League of European Research Libraries, will be held in Bern, Switzerland, from 1 to 5 July 1997. The conference is supported by the European Commission, DG XIII, through the Libraries sector of the Telematics Applications programme.

The theme of the 1997 annual meeting will be "the teaching library". The conference will bring together representatives of libraries from all over Europe. Sessions will look at how research libraries can contribute to teaching, and will cover topics such as continuous education and specialization, teaching access, preservation education, library management and the teaching library, and the Swiss situation. In addition, a pre-conference session will look at changes in the copyright situation, following the recent agreement on the WIPO Convention. A representative of DG XIII will outline the Commission's policies on copyright in the digital age.
