The Second International Campus Companies Conference will take place in Edinburgh, Scotland, on 5-6 November 1997. The conference is organized by Technology Ventures (Scottish Enterprise) in collaboration with the Innovation Relay Centre for Scotland (Euro Info Centre Ltd.), Lothian and Edinburgh Enterprise and Coopers and Lybrand.

The aim of the conference is to look at the funding of university spin-out and high technology companies - companies often, though not always, located on university campuses or science parks, hence the term "campus companies".

Finance and funding of campus companies will be discussed from a strategic viewpoint. Particular attention will be given to how additional funding can be secured for these companies and how they can make themselves more attractive to investor. A wide range of high-level speakers will discuss their experiences and participate in workshops. Mr. Javier Hernandez-Ros of the Commission's INNOVATION programme will present the activities of the European Union in this area.

The conference is part of a larger "Technology Ventures" event, and will be followed by two related conferences:

- The First Scottish Technology Forum:
Aimed at an invited audience of potential investors, venture partners and investing companies, this Forum will give participants the opportunity to meet with and discuss the investment opportunities presented to them by 25 of Scotland's current new technology-based companies and projects;

- Conference on "Commercialization, the post-research option?":
Designed to give university research assistance, junior academic staff and PhD students, among others, an insight into the main commercialization routes for their work. It will discuss licensing joint ventures and the setting up of spin-out businesses, as well as highlighting some success stories. Sources of help and advice will also be discussed.
