The RISK'97 International Conference on Mapping Environmental Risks and Risk Comparison will take place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from 21 to 24 October 1997. The conference is being organized by RIVM (Research for Man and the Environment), in cooperation with the European Union, the Environmental Protection Agency, the OECD, the Netherlands Institute for Applied Research (TNO) and the Netherlands Ministry for Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment (VROM).

The central theme of the conference will be the relevance of geographical maps to the discussion on and the management of risks. The aim is to bring together the relevant stakeholders from different disciplines and fields of interest and to contribute to the mutual understanding of concepts, enhance the sharing of experience and assist those seeking the best means to undertake risk assessment and management in their specific circumstances. The conference will focus on risk management and the technology of risk mapping.
