Theory and tools for innovation management
The conference aims to discuss the "European paradox", identified in the European Commission's Green Paper on Innovation of December 1995. This shows that, in comparison to its major competitors, Europe has a low rate of transforming scientific and technological research into viable innovations. Whilst this subject can be discussed at macroeconomic level, the conference will concentrate on the level of the individual firm.
Using innovation management techniques, and integrating them into the company's general strategy, will facilitate the absorption of innovation in that firm. Innovation management techniques include marketing of innovation, technology watch, quality management, design, and value analysis. However, since most SMEs do not have the necessary in-house knowledge and skills in innovation management techniques, they often rely on external advisory services for these applications.
The aim of the conference is to bring together representatives of these firms, particularly those specialized in dealing with SMEs, to discuss the latest developments in the field. The programme will cover the state-of-the-art in techniques, approaches and methodologies aiming to develop innovative behaviour in companies. The conference will also aim to foster transnational exchange of knowledge and methodological practice in the use of innovation management techniques.
